Will I Feel Welcome?
We are a diverse community. We come from all kinds of religious, ethnic, and social backgrounds. You’ll find single adults of all ages, young married couples, families with young (and not so young!) children, junior and senior high school students, college students, and active senior citizens.
What we all have in common is that we have experienced God’s grace and mercy and it’s changed our lives and given us hope, strength and joy. We want to share the joy of that experience with one another and with our community.
We are delighted to have visitors and will try our best to make you feel welcome!
What to Expect When You Arrive on Sunday
We are located at the corner of Rt. 176 and Anderson Road, in Wauconda, just west of Rt. 12 and right across from the Taco Bell. (Click here for a map)
We have two Worship Services each Sunday: one at 8:15 and the other at 11:00 am. Both services are the same each Sunday.
Dress casually or in more traditional Sunday attire. Please dress in the manner that is most comfortable to you; you will find a wide range of clothing choices represented at each of our worship services.
Providing a safe and pleasant experience for our children is extremely important to us. We have a nursery and child care available for babies through age 3 at the 8:15 Worship Service, nursery care for babies through age 2 during the Sunday School hours, and child care for babies through pre-Kindergarten at the 11:00 Worship Service. (Click here for more information.) Mention to the greeter that you are interested in the nursery or child care and we will make sure that you are introduced to the appropriate nursery workers.
What to Expect at the Worship Service
Our worship team opens our Service by leading us in singing a blend of contemporary music and traditional hymns that help us praise and thank God—for what he has done for us and for Who He is. Even if you are not familiar with the songs, if you wish to join in, you’ll find the melodies easy to follow and screens display the words for each song. Our musicians use a variety of instruments including piano, guitars, keyboard, drums, wind instruments and bass.
Following the opening songs, a worship leader leads us in prayer and thanksgiving. You’ll find that we are a family who cares about and prays for matters large and small in the lives of others, so these prayers may be more personal and direct that what you have experienced in other church services.
The offering is a time for our regular attenders to give back to God. As a visitor, please do not feel any obligation to give. However, we would appreciate it if you add your name, and whatever contact information that you wish, to our Fellowship Register that is found in the pew.
The Bible, God’s Word, is central to our faith and hearing from the Bible is central to our worship service. A 25-35 minute talk that dives into the text of the Bible and then applies that to our lives in very practical ways follows the collection of the offering and the announcements. You will find Sermon notes in your Bulletin that will help you follow along and provide a reminder of the Bible passages that we considered on Sunday.
On the First Sunday of each month, we celebrate Communion. The Evangelical Free Church practices “open Communion” which means that any one, regardless of his or her denomination may share in our Communion offering PROVIDED that he or she has made an individual commitment to Christ as his or her personal savior.
If you have not made that commitment or currently are a member of a faith that bars you from communion in other denominations, just let the bread and the cup pass you by—that is completely acceptable!
If you have not made a commitment to Christ, you may wish to read the handout that will be in the Bulletin on what salvation is and how to obtain it.
The service usually lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The 8:15 Service usually concludes by 9:30 and the 11:00 Service usually concludes by 12:15.
What to Expect After the Service
After church, please stop by the back of the Church because we have a Welcome gift that we would like to share with you as our thanks for visiting with us.
We also welcome any comments or questions that you have about our Church.
If you have joined us for the 8:15 Service, please feel free to join any of our Adult Bible Fellowship sessions that are held from 9:45 – 10:45. (Click for more information.) In particular, you may wish to sit in on our Foundations class, which covers the basic beliefs of the Evangelical faith. Your children (age 2 and older) are welcome to sit in on a Sunday School class as well.
We hope that you will come and worship with us!!
